Donald Trump has extended his advantage over Joe Biden and now leads the Democrat President by six percentage points according to a poll run by Reuters and Ipsos.
The nationwide poll of 1,250 US adults showed Trump leading Biden 40% to 34% with the rest unsure or planning to vote for someone else or no one. The poll had a margin of error of three percentage points.
Following Trumps win over remaining Republican candidate Nikki Haley on Tuesday, 67% of respondents indicated that they were "tired" of a rematch between Biden and Trump, saying they wanted something new.
Biden is keen on a rematch with thoughts within the White House that Trump is a defeatable challenger, while the latter is expecting the Republican nomination and a win on election day.
Over half of respondents to the poll indicated that they were dissatisfied with the current two party system in the US, with only 25% in favour of it.
Turnout in the November election is predicted to be high given the motivation of both parties to beat each other. Although one comment described the race as "navigating the lesser of two evils"
