Foreign Secretary David Cameron has "raised concerns" amid heightened tensions on the Lebanon-Israel border. The former PM was on a visit to Lebanon and met with senior Lebanese officials.

On an official visit, his fourth visit to the Middle East since becoming foreign secretary in November 2023, he raised his concerns on "the rising tensions along Lebanon’s boundary with Israel".

Cameron met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander General Joseph Aoun, and Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz.

During the visit Cameron announced UK support for the LAF, which has reached £100m since 2009. A large amount of this funding was used towards border controls, including border towers and equipment and troops involved in border operations.

Cameron also announced a series of aid funding to the region totalling nearly £10m to support humanitarian efforts and the education of vulnerable children.

Cameron said: "The UK is working to help preserve stability in Lebanon and prevent a damaging regional escalation. We’re supporting the Lebanon Armed Forces – we’ve trained over 26,500 Lebanese soldiers and are giving further humanitarians aid to help the most vulnerable."
