King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. It was found during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate, but isn't prostate cancer.
Buckingham Palace says the King "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible".
He will postpone his public engagements and it is expected other senior royals will help to stand in for him during his treatment.
The King has today started a schedule of regular treatments, thought to be chemotherapy, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, they say: "The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.
"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
No further details are being shared on the stage of cancer or a prognosis.
